What’s Happening In Gaza Is Proof We Must Fundamentally Change Our Way Of Thinking

I wrote this nearly 3 years ago https://medium.com/p/0abc4cc5c702. While I did not then have Palestine in mind, I think it applies to what’s going on there now. The story of Hamlet is the story of someone who has had his birthright and his country taken from him through the murder of his father. In Palestine and elsewhere, so many have become dispossessed of their land and rights by those who murdered their ancestors.

All over the world we are dealing with the issue of colonialism and settler colonialism, and those who have been colonized and have had their land expropriated vastly outnumber those who have colonized and stolen the land. The Palestinians are merely the most recent example of this. And like what happened in the past, the history is attempting to be written by the victors at the cost of victims.

Just like so many other important issues of the day, there are no easy answers here. Thus far, violence has been used to control those who, like Hamlet, have had their rightful inheritance taken from them. Those who take what is not rightfully theirs have no other answer so long as they wish to remain in possession of what they or their forefathers have taken. Violence will increase as those who have had their land, their natural resources, and their right to self-govern taken from them, awaken FROM the colonialist narratives and TO their true power. The children of Claudius tremble with fear as they realize just how much they have taken and…
