We Trade Our Connection With The Sacred For The Tawdry Rewards And False Security Society Provides Us

5 min readMay 4, 2025

If you are unable to admit to what your country is doing now, you will not be able to believe it when your country does far worse in the future. You are in fact handing your government a blank check for future crimes against humanity. There is a long history of our country engaging in slavery, genocide, inhumane experiments on unwilling test subjects, starting wars over lies, exploiting workers, etc., and yet we somehow view such instances as lessons we learned from rather than indicators of behavioral patterns. We place all that is bad in us in the past, without ever having done anything to address it other than uttering insincere apologies.

We have not addressed our past deeds, have never atoned for our past sins, because our present selves are unwilling to do what is required to build a just and honest society. We have no desire to let these past actions indicate to us who we are today, because it would require us to relinquish our privileges and status. And we have no desire to contemplate the abominations we will be guilty of in the future, because we are certain that we will be able to find our way back to some mythic past in which we were once better than we are now.
