This Is What 30 Years Of U.S. Dominance Looks Like
We are living in the world the United States has built. The U.S. has, for the last three decades, had uncontested control over all the important events and decisions. Its allies it has converted into sycophants and the rest of the world into supplicants. The sycophants like Tony Blair cheered on the invasion of Iraq, whereas the supplicants were in no position to protest, although they all must have known that it was not merely immoral and dangerous but outright foolish.
I really don’t think nations such as China and Russia permitted us to engage in such a foolish and pointless war as a means of tripping us up in our own hubris, but were fearful of saying what should have been said. We, for a bright and shining moment, were not merely the uncontested global leader, we were a nation that inspired awe around the world. Whatever reservations others held about our actions, they were hesitant to doubt the lone surviving superpower. There was an aura about us, a bright but ephemeral illusion of invincibility and inevitability.
We witnessed how much the world was behind us on September 11, 2001. The world, THE WORLD, reached out to us at that moment. Everyone was a New Yorker, everyone sought to reach out and offer support. Some — many — we arrogantly dismissed, as they were mere supplicants and not sufficiently sycophantic.
We witnessed again how the world rallied to us in our time of need when Hurricane Katrina hit. Donations flowed in from around the world to help the victims…
