How about that game last night, huh? And the commercials, weren’t they wonderful? And that halftime show, I give it an A+ except for the parts I didn’t like, which I give an F-.

Just kidding. I didn’t watch the spectacle. I didn’t feel compelled to. I do not wish to base my cultural understanding and my relationship with my fellow human beings around corporate events. And the Super Bowl is the corporate event of all corporate events. I do not want to center my existence around corporate structures.

I know many people will gasp and say, “But that’s all there is! There are no places where people can meet outside of the corporate system. No cultural events or art to discuss but what corporations feed to us.” And that may be mostly true, but it is not right. In fact, that is all the more reason to find alternative ways of relating with each other and with the outside world. We must have direct connections to the sacred, free from the corporate entities which seek to entangle themselves with everything interaction we have. The corporate monolith is an abomination which must be changed.

Even if it cannot be changed, it must be combated nonetheless. The attempt must be made, if we are to regard ourselves as human beings. If we are to regard ourselves as part of the web of life…
