The Lesser Of Unacceptable Choices Is Still Unacceptable

There are some relationships where, when you are done, you are done completely. You can for decades try to please someone, can believe they really have your best interests at heart. But once you see the situation for what it is, you can never again see that person the way you used to. Once you realize they have been lying to you the whole time, you never again take seriously anything they say. You never again give them the benefit of the doubt. You never give them the opportunity to take advantage of your good nature again.

I’ve never had a trusting relationship with the Republican Party or Donald Trump. They have always been the bad guys in my eyes. So I could never feel that way towards them the way I do with the Democrats. There was a time I saw the Democrats as my team. I believed they were well-meaning but somewhat slow to catch on. I believed they were a little behind me and others who pushed for justice and change, but they would eventually do the right thing once they had sufficient support to do the right thing. They might be moving annoyingly slowly toward meaningful change, but they would get there in time.

Like any unhealthy relationship, it takes one gullible person and someone who is willing to take advantage of that gullibility. Now I’m not saying that every Democratic politician is consciously taking…
