The Establishment Doesn’t Respect You, It’s Up To You To Respect Yourself

The media does not respect you. It tells you the sort of lies a child would tell while assuming the authority of a parent.

Your politicians do not respect you. They tell you what you want to hear when they need your vote, then they pass the laws their donors want them to pass.

The corporation you work for doesn’t respect you. They tell you you’re family and let you go when you’re no longer useful.

The artists do not respect you. Art should elevate your thoughts and emotions to the stars, but they drag you down into the dirt.

Why do you give them your approval to run things, to speak for you and interpret the world for you? Is it because for now things are tolerable and the risk that things could get worse is real? Is it because you believe that they might see the error of their ways and voluntarily reform themselves to be who you want them to be? If you allow yourself to believe YOUR rationalizations, it is because you’ve already allowed yourself to believe THEIR rationalizations.

Their lies are ever more obvious, their promises becoming ever more empty, their art becoming ever more vapid and vulgar, their business dealings becoming ever more one-sided and openly ruthless.

Their contempt for you becoming ever more apparent.

Their conviction of their own worth ever more deluded.

Their disregard for anything other than their own ego gratification becoming ever more revolting.

You have to do something.

You have to step out from the limitations they have built for you.

You have to take one timid little step just to reassert your humanity, to show that you are not entirely and utterly obedient.

Something.

Anything.

You have to believe there is some small area of your life that is not being monitored by their cameras, that is not being recorded by their computers, some small little spot in this big world where you are able to spread what is left of your wings in order to feel like a human being again. I am reluctant to use the word because it is so overused and misused, but there must be something inside of you that yearns for freedom. That yearns to be self-directed rather than be directed by external forces. There is something inside you still that is you, that is something more than what other people have told you you have to be.

Something sacred.

There is something better than the dystopian future they are herding you towards. There has to be. Dare to tear yourself away from the machine for a moment, dare to breath the air as you were meant to, and you will know it.
