Navigating The Maze Of Politics (A Parable)

The bus pulled up to the corn maze, the last stop of the day for the church outing. It had been a glorious day, and though they accidentally ended up holding their picnic in the very same park as the church down the road held theirs, they made the best of it and, in a spirit of togetherness, even competed in games against them. Mike’s muscles still ached from the tug of war they had — unfortunately — lost.

“It feels good to get together with people who hold the same beliefs as you do,” thought Cindy, looking out the window at the vast maze they were about to navigate. “There are so many people out there with so very odd ideas. Take those people from the church down the road, for example…”

No sooner than she thought this than another bus pulled up next to them, blocking Cindy’s view of the maze. Her spirits dropped as she realized who it was, those people who had beat them at tug of war and most every other game earlier. But she had little time to dwell on such matters, as she had to assist the reverend — her husband — off the bus. She patiently waited as he stared confused about him, not knowing where he was though she had only just told him. He was perhaps too old to be leading the flock, but he had become an important fixture who had led the congregation through the very trying split many years ago. “Come on Walter,” she said to her husband…
