My overall point is if you eat mostly healthy, natural foods, you should never have to worry about eating for protein. I agree that people eat a ton of processed junk foods that aren't good for them. A question for you: are people eating more carbs per calorie in their diet than they were in the 70's? If so, then that could explain it, but I don't think that is the case.
