My Memories Of What Life Was Like In The 70’s
I lived in an age before dryer sheets, when everyone’s pants legs clung together and static electricity sparks would cause woolen sweaters to spontaneously combust.
I lived in an age when popcorn was not made on a whim by throwing it in a magical box but instead required a pot to pop the popcorn and a pan to melt the butter.
People were thinner back then because it took too much work to make actual food. Most of the time we just realized we weren’t that hungry and found something else to do besides eat.
Back in the day we used to get bored, now we get anxious. It took us a while before we realized we were bored, but it only takes us about thirty seconds before we get anxious nowadays. Set the timer on your phone to two minutes, set your phone down, and see how many seconds you can last without the anxiety welling up in you.
We used to wait like 3 weeks to see if the photos we took were any good. Usually it took longer because you had to use up a whole roll of film, and you weren’t about to waste your film just taking any old shot. If it wasn’t a wedding or a rare spotting of bigfoot, you had to think real hard before taking a picture.
Television programming shut down at night, somewhere between midnight and 2 am. You were absolutely cut off from the outside world…
