My friend and his family escaped Afghanistan during the 80's when the U.S. was supplying arms to religious fundamentalists, including foreigners like Osama Bin Ladin. Not all of them made it out alive. His sister was a doctor in Afghanistan before U.S. and its allies tore down the existing government and let the country fall into a cesspool of religious fundamentalism. Then U.S. and its allies spent 2 decades "fixing" the very problem that they caused. The result? The country didn't last a week before it fell to the very same people that never would have been in power had we not gotten involved in the first place. I'll tell my friend he should be more thankful.
