Falling Asleep With The TV On

Awakening from the illusion,
They exit the bedroom
Into another room in the house of dreams.

Imagining themselves woke for being in the newest dream,
It, too, becomes their reality, just as their last one was.
No world exists for them beyond the four walls of this room.

The TV’s switched to a new channel,
But it’s always on.
No time for reflection on the dreams they have
The volume’s much too loud.
No communication permitted with the dreamers
In the other rooms.

The rational mind is all that’s allowed
But the rational mind is not their own
The rational mind is on the screen
Their job, to learn by rote.

No questions
No visions
Just obedience.

No feelings
No dissent
Just programmed reactions.

And as they gather, seated, around the giant screen
Vast delicacies are heaped upon their TV trays.
And a grand discussion is had

With each of them parroting
What the TV just told them
No one questioning
What the TV just told them
Between advertisement for new…
