Does The Corporate Leviathan Care About My Small Acts Of Resistance?
I’ve changed the way I eat these last few years. Not for the sake of my health, although I feel much better. Not for the sake of saving money, although I don’t feel any poorer. Not for the sake of taste, although I’ve never enjoyed food the way I have lately. No, I changed the way I eat and shop for food as part of an experiment to see how much money I can keep out of the hands of big corporations. Which means I can’t remember the last time I had McDonald’s, Coca Cola, bananas, Fruity Pebbles, Snickers, or Nature Valley granola bars. The stuff I eat doesn’t come in boxes with pictures on it, does not come with a million dollar marketing campaign, nor does it involve giant corporations financing paramilitary squads in South America. Maybe it’s just me, but food seems to taste better without the blood of peasant farmers on it.
It’s part of a broader campaign I am on to find alternatives to giving my money to corporations. I am far from perfect, but I do try.
