Develop An Adult Relationship With The Media And Authority (Or You Will Never Grow Up)
When you have no sense of self, you are incapable of developing your own opinion. You may think you have an opinion of your own, but you will only repeat the opinions of others and claim them for your own. You will never utter a unique thought of your own. And people capable of critical thought see that. You will open up your mouth and the media will spill out of it. You will parrot the opinions of whatever thought leaders you ascribe to and never vary from them. And you won’t even realize it, and thus never admit to it.
Lacking the ability to form your own thoughts, you will rely on the “experts”. Critical thinkers too will rely on the expertise of others, but they will seek a variety of opinions from different experts in order to get a more balanced perspective. Those with no sense of self take the words of a given person or group the way a student wishing to get a good grade from a teacher would. They believe the highest form of learning is to be able to parrot back to authority or experts what they have told them.
Someone with a sense of self will take the various facts and opinions they have learned and assemble them into some form that makes sense to them, rather than absorb facts and opinions without regard for a deeper understanding. The one with a sense of self…
