As best as I can, I'm withdrawing from the planet-destroying system. If it weren't for the fact that I need to go to work, I would scarce need to own a car. I buy most of my food from local farmers and bakers, and what I cannot get from them I mostly buy from a local Mennonite-run store. I'm not getting off the grid so much as trying to build a local and sustainable alternative to what we now have. And you know what? It is not a sacrifice but a pleasure. The highlight of my week is biking to the farmers market even if the weather is 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Today I found Kohlrabi from the Amish and celery grown in a hoop house. This in December in Wisconsin. Apples, squash, and root vegetables should be good for a while yet. Meanwhile, I have lots of food I froze and canned during the summer months. I'm far from perfect, but I am making a serious dent in the amount of support I give to the system I oppose.
